Bristol Vs. Plymouth Outlaws D4
14th June 2026
Plymouth Outlaws recorded the club’s first sweep on Sunday, battling through a long road trip and hot conditions to beat Bristol Buccaneers 8-4 and 9-4 at Somerdale Pavilion to make it 4/4 against the Buccaneers this season.
The Outlaws came into the day knowing Bristol would make them work for every inning, and both games proved competitive. Plymouth came through with two complete-game pitching performances, timely hitting, and some standout defensive moments across the diamond.
Game one started with Bristol taking an early 2-0 lead, but Plymouth responded well. The Outlaws scored three in the second and three more in the third to take control, with Iman Samarakoon driving in Leo Back on a ground-rule double before Dan Herrera added an RBI single.
Mac Macdonald settled in after the first inning and took the win on the mound, throwing all five innings and striking out eight. Herrera also impressed behind the plate, helping guide Mac through the game and controlling the running game well.
Plymouth added two more runs in the fifth when Benjamin Phillips delivered a key two-run single, giving the Outlaws enough breathing room to see out an 8-4 win.
Game two was built around Matt Ball’s control and the defence behind him. Ball threw a complete game of his own, walking none across five innings. Bristol consistently put the ball in play, but Plymouth kept making the plays when they needed them.
Jack Parsons covered plenty of ground in centre field, taking five catches, while Dan Herrera produced one of the defensive highlights of the day with a brilliant over-the-shoulder catch at shortstop. Danidu Samarakoon looked assured at third base, Mac Macdonald put in a strong performance at first in his first appearance there this season, and skipper James Platten stepped behind the plate for his first catching appearance.
At the plate, Herrera led the way across the double header, going 4-for-6. Phillips drove in four runs, Parsons went 3-for-5 with four runs scored, and Danidu Samarakoon provided the biggest swing of the day.
With two outs in the top of the fifth and Plymouth holding a 5-2 lead, Danidu launched a three-run home run to deep centre field, moving him top of the team home run chart with four on the season.
Leo Back then kept the inning alive with a walk, stole second, and came all the way round to score when a pickoff attempt went into the outfield. That took the Outlaws from 5-2 up to 9-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth, giving Plymouth the breathing room they needed.
Bristol continued to battle and added two runs in the final inning, but Plymouth held on for a 9-4 win to complete a memorable day for the club.
Credit to Bristol Buccaneers, who hosted us at a fantastic facility and have been excellent opponents across all four games this season. Every matchup has been competitive, well played and enjoyable.
