Outlaws D5 Vs. Torrington Riptides
12th April 2026
We kicked off our Division 5 season with a home double header against the Torrington Riptides, and while the results didn’t quite go our way, there was plenty to be encouraged by across both games.
Game 1 – Torrington Riptides 15, Outlaws 5
With Torrington batting first, we were put under early pressure as they built momentum through the opening innings. A big third inning from the visitors gave them a cushion, but we responded well and never let our heads drop.
We got ourselves on the board early with two runs in the first, showing positive intent right from the start. Even as the game got away from us, we kept competing and finished strongly with three more runs in the fifth.
There were some really solid performances with the bat:
Simon Pritchard led the way, getting on base consistently and scoring twice
James Pollard was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 and driving in a run, also putting his body on the line with a HBP
Dan Banner picked up a couple of RBIs, including a well-hit double
Putting up 11 hits as a team is a big positive and something we can definitely build on.
Game 2 – Torrington Riptides 19, Outlaws 13
Game two was a completely different story and turned into a proper battle. Once again, Torrington set the early pace, but this time we responded in a big way.
Our highlight came in the third inning, where we put up five runs and really swung the momentum back in our favour. From there, it became an end-to-end contest with both teams trading runs.
The standout moment of the day came from Dan Banner, who went 4-for-4 and launched a fantastic home run as part of a brilliant all-round performance.
He wasn’t alone either:
Chris Peirce had a big game with 3 hits and 3 RBIs
Callum Lyons drove in 3 runs and showed great discipline at the plate
Contributions came right through the lineup as we racked up 13 runs from 15 hits
Honourable mention goes out to our resident teacher, Millie Ashdown, she was a magnet for the pitcher getting hit twice in this game!
We kept the pressure on right until the final inning, but just couldn’t quite close the gap.
Looking Ahead
Across both games, there’s a lot for us to take forward. Scoring 18 runs and putting up 26 hits across the day shows what we’re capable of offensively.
The main difference came down to a couple of big innings from Torrington, and that’s something we’ll look to tighten up as we go.
Most importantly, the effort, attitude, and team spirit were there for everyone to see. We stuck together, kept battling, and showed exactly what this group is about.
We’ll take the positives, learn from the rest, and come back stronger next time.
We ride together. We are the Outlaws.
