Exeter Wyverns Vs. Plymouth Outlaws D4
26th April 2026
Game Day Recap – Plymouth Outlaws II @ Exeter Wyverns
A tough day on the road that ultimately resulted in a pair of losses, but with very different stories in each game.
Game 1 – Tough to build momentum (L)
We found this one difficult to get going offensively.
Despite working counts at times, we were limited to 1 hit and 1 run, which made it hard to apply any sustained pressure. Exeter took their chances well and were able to build innings through a mix of timely hitting and aggressive baserunning.
• Joe Daniels led their offence with an extra-base hit and multiple RBIs
• Tony Watson did the bulk of the damage, driving in 5 runs
• They stayed active on the bases and made the most of scoring opportunities
Defensively, there were a few moments we’d like back, and combined with some free bases, it allowed Exeter to keep innings alive longer than we’d have liked.
Plenty to learn from this one, especially around starting faster and finding ways to create pressure earlier in games.
Game 2 – One that got away (L 11–9)
A completely different performance with the bats.
We showed real intent offensively:
• 9 runs from 8 hits
• Klang (3-for-3) setting the tone again
• Peirce crossing the plate 3 times
• Kellie driving in 3 RBIs
We put ourselves in a strong position, but control proved to be the difference. 7 walks issued gave Exeter opportunities, and they capitalised to put up 11 runs.
We kept battling and stayed right in it throughout, but just couldn’t quite shut the door when it mattered.
Overall
A frustrating day, but one with clear takeaways:
• Game 1: Need to find ways to get the offence moving earlier
• Game 2: Strong hitting, but control and limiting free bases is key
There’s plenty in there to build on — clean up the small details, and results will follow text here...
