Outlaws Split Cross-City Double Header with the Plymouth Mariners
The Plymouth Outlaws Development Squad came away with a hard-fought split in their double-header against local rivals the Plymouth Mariners, falling 18-10 in the opener before responding emphatically with a 12-5 victory in Game 2.
Game 1: Plymouth Outlaws 10 – 18 Plymouth Mariners
The Outlaws took the field first and made a solid start defensively, holding the Mariners scoreless in the opening inning. On the mound was Morgan Parkinson, making his league pitching debut for the club. Despite facing a disciplined Mariners lineup, Parkinson attacked the strike zone confidently and showed great composure throughout the outing. Making your first league start is never easy, but Morgan embraced the challenge, recording an impressive 7 strikeouts and gaining valuable experience that will undoubtedly benefit him as the season progresses.
The Mariners eventually broke through in the second inning, scoring four runs before adding five more in the third to build a significant lead.
The Outlaws, however, refused to go quietly.
Josh Harvey started the third-inning rally with a single before Sam Klang drove in Plymouth’s first run. James Pollard followed with an RBI double, while Morgan Parkinson and Nathan Joy also contributed to a four-run inning that brought the Outlaws back into the contest.
The momentum continued in the fourth. Harvey again got things started before Pollard, Chris Peirce and Stuart Kellie all delivered important RBIs. Peirce’s two-run double into left-centre was one of the offensive highlights of the game as Plymouth piled on five more runs.
The Mariners responded with further scoring in the fourth and fifth innings to regain control, eventually securing an 18-10 victory despite the Outlaws’ spirited comeback efforts.

Despite the defeat, the Outlaws showed resilience and character by
battling back to score ten runs against a strong Mariners side.
Game 2: Plymouth Outlaws 12 – 5 Plymouth Mariners
The Outlaws wasted little time putting the first game behind them and produced one of their most complete performances of the season to earn a convincing 12-5 victory.
The Mariners scored first, but Plymouth responded immediately. Taff Mercer led off with a single and later crossed the plate to tie the game.
Nathan Joy took control on the mound and delivered one of his strongest performances of the season. Mixing strikes with excellent composure, Joy kept the Mariners offence in check throughout the game and finished with an outstanding 11 strikeouts in a complete-game victory. His performance provided the platform for the Outlaws offence to build momentum and take control of the contest.
The Outlaws took the lead in the second inning through RBIs from Morgan Parkinson and James Pollard before breaking the game open in the third. Sepi Stuart reached base to start the rally, Nathan Joy drove in a run with a double, and patient at-bats throughout the lineup forced the Mariners pitchers to work hard. Walks to Millie Ashdown, Bobby Trotman, Erin Owens, Taff Mercer and Morgan Parkinson all helped extend the inning as Plymouth put five runs on the board.
With the Mariners attempting a comeback in the fourth, the Outlaws answered immediately. Joy delivered another RBI hit before Mercer, Owens and Pollard all drove in runs to restore a comfortable advantage.
The Mariners threatened late, but Plymouth’s defence stood firm and stranded three runners in the fifth inning to secure a deserved 12-5 victory.
Game 2 Highlights

• James Pollard: Continued his busy day with timely hitting and two RBIs.
• Morgan Parkinson: Reached base consistently and drove in runs.

Plenty of Positives
While the day ended with one win and one loss, the Outlaws showed exactly why this development squad continues to improve. The team combined for 22 runs across the two games, received strong contributions throughout the lineup, and saw another player step up to make his league pitching debut.
Morgan Parkinson impressed with 7 strikeouts in his first league outing, showing confidence and determination against a strong Mariners lineup. Nathan Joy followed that up with a dominant complete-game performance in Game 2, finishing with 11 strikeouts as he helped lead the Outlaws to victory over our city rivals.
A split against the Mariners may not have delivered a perfect record on the day, but it showcased the growth, resilience and talent running throughout the Outlaws Development Squad. The first win of the season could have come at a better time!
